48h in Rome

I had never been to Rome, our house was undergoing renovation, so we decided to spend the weekend in Rome!

We departed LHR as a family and had booked a family room in ibis styles. As we arrived late we booked a taxi to take us to the hotel.

We aimed to see;

Rome Colosseum
Roman Forum
Pantheon
Trevi Fountain
and the Vatican (from outside)

The next day we boarded the subway to head into Rome.

We decided to start at the Colosseum https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colosseum

There was a few queues, but it wasn’t too bad, you enter via a side chamber and have to walk up several levels before you can access the outside areas.

You can see where there used to be a floor and the sections below it which would have housed a whole array of people and animals.

We took a hop-on-hop-off bus to explore the city sights seeing the pantheon, and many of the top spots.

We had a great time, my only stress was the return journey. We chose to take public transport, but the train didn’t arrive. It eventually did 40 minutes later, and continued to get later and later.

If I were to do it again, I’d not want this stress! We fortunately made it, but it was close.
